Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device

It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

The preview shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
