19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hardcourt

A revitalized Medvedev won his first championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has endured a challenging season, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in especial - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and finally separating with former mentor Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought competitive win over challenger Moutet.

This marks the player's first trophy following the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt since March of the previous year.

Victory also means the Russian has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my children together, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, featuring in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and regular reactions on court had led some to doubt if his ability to play at the top level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and play positively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden professional championship, took control to push for a third set.

He saved 4 early break points in a close deciding set before the Russian secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner clinched the title with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
