Automobiles in Germany's Town Found Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Authorities reported they were contacted by a individual who discovered a vehicle in Hanau marked with reddish liquid

Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Vehicles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.

Police state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.

The fluid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they reported.

Police then discovered numerous other marked automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials say early analysis show the fluid was most likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; officials are currently not cognizant of any harm in association with the incident," they stated.

City officials stated they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the community for tips.

A high-ranking representative said the attack made him speechless and had to be solved promptly.

"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on a platform, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on people of migrant background in five years prior.
